Shahrukh Khan is in the news everyday - ever since he is the host of “Kaun Banega Crorepati” for Star Plus.

His video album –“ Karle Karle Koi Dhamaal” is creating waves. This album is set for release on the 10^th of February.

This music video was first used in the promos for Kaun Banega Crorepati, and has already been telecast on several music channels.

This will be another first for Shahrukh who has never worked in a music album earlier. He is very excited and happy about it. The video has a new concept of questions and answers in the form of a song. Ganesh Hegde does the entire conceptualization and choreography.

Ganesh Hegde has sung this himself. Vishal Anand gave the music. They composed the music in a minute, by giving it a foot tapping , infectious beat.

Drona - This mega movie, packed with action and dangerous stunts is the focus of the Bachchans now.

The Bachchans are investing a huge amount on this Abhishek starrer. Abhishek will play a super hero in the movie. Drona will project him in a very stylish image, slim and tall, with long hair – which is the reason you see him sporting a hair band of late.

He did not mean it as a fashion statement, but since he is looking the cool dude with it, you never know, he may have unwittingly started a trend.

The first schedule for the movie has been shot in Prague. The director- Goldie Bhel and producer Shristi are family friends of the Bachchans.

The budget for the movie is a whopping 60 crores. (Krrish was made on a budget of 45 crores).

    

Priyanka Chopra will be playing the romantic lead and Jaya Bachchan will play the role of Abhishek’s mother. Rumors are rife about the movie - that it is going to better Krrish in all aspects. Why bother when Krrish has already done whatever it set out to do?

Shruti Singh a lawyer in the Patna High Court has filed a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) against Aishwarya Rai.

Aishwarya is a Manglik (Ruled by Mars) and this according to Hindu astrologers is not auspicious to her marriage to Abhishek Bachchan who is a non-Manglik. To overcome the negative effect of this, Aishwarya was married to a Peepal tree in Benaras and a Banana tree at a temple in Bangalore. Then she was married to an idol in a temple in Ayodhya.

According to Shruti such practices come under the Untouchability Act as in Article 17. It also violates fundamental rights. She says that the rituals performed by Aishwarya under the guidance and consent of the Bachchan family promotes superstition and blind faith among the common people

Shruti is a Woman’s Rights Activist. She has requested the court to issue a directive to stop the practice of Manglik girls first marrying a tree, an idol or an animal.

She demanded a public apology from the Bachchan family and also said that an FIR should be filed against Amitabh Bachchan, Jaya Bachchan and Samajwadi Party leader, Amar Singh.

The Oscar Awards has nominated Deepa Mehta’s Water in The Best Foreign Language Film Category. The awards will be announced on the 25^th of February.

The film was slated for release in India on the 23^rd of Feb. Now that Deepa will be busy with the promotional work in L A the release of the movie in India will be postponed by a month. The movie will now be released on 23^rd of March.

Ironically Mira Nair’s The Namesake will also be released on the same day. Both the women directors have made a place for themselves in international cinema.

John Abraham is also very excited about Water being nominated for the Oscar awards. He has worked very hard for this film – he worked on his diction and body language. He even learned to play the flute for this movie. He wants to be with Deepa in L A for the promotion of the movie.

The Televised version of The Hero Honda Star Screen Awards was aired on Sunday the 4^th of February.

Kareena’s dance to “Yeh Mera Dil” from Don 2 was the highlight of the evening, yesteryear Oomph dancer Helen joined her on stage with her version of the dance in the original Don, and she had the crowd in raptures.

To crown her performance Kareena was announced the best actres for her performance in Omkara. She was beyond happy - she was absolutely thrilled. She had won an award in this category after Refugee. Her sister Karisma was in the audience looking beautiful, cheering her all the way.

Hrithik Roshan was declared best actor for his endearing performance in Krrish. He wasn’t present and Rekha collected his award. This movie also got an award for best action by Tony Ching Sin Tung (from Singapore) and Sham Kaushal

Saif Ali Khan came in late, so he missed his call. He made up for it when he was on stage to give away an award. He bagged an award for best actor in a negative role for Omkara.

Sanjay Dutt walked away with the critic’s award for best actor. He was given the award for his lovable performance in Lage Raho Munna Bhai. This movie won many more accolades, among them were the awards for best dialogues, and the best actor in a supporting role was presented to Arshad Warsi for the film. Vidhu Vinod Chopra was jubilant when it was announced the best movie of the year. The award for the best story was won by Raj Kumar Hirani andAbhijit Joshi for this movie. Raj Kumar Hirani also bagged the award for the best dialogues and another for the best editing.

Rang de Basanti also bagged some major awards; among them were the best supporting actor, which was given to Kiron Kher. Rakyesh Mehra won the prestigious best director award for the film and Siddharth won the best debut award.

The best screenplay award was given to Rensil D’ Silva and Rakeysh Mehra for this movie. The movie also won the best cinematography award, which was given to Binod Pradhan. A R Rahman won the award for best background music for this movie. The movie went on to win an award for the best art direction by Samir Chanda.

Kangana Ranaut came through for the best newcomer for Gangster and Woh Lamhe.

Shahrukh Khan and Rani Mukherji were given the best star jodi for Kabhi Alvida Na Kehna. Rani was looking a tad lonely all through the function.

Shreyas Talpade of the Iqbal fame won an award this year for best actor in a comic role for Dor

Best playback singer male was awarded to Shaan for “Chand Sifarish” in Fanaa. And best playback singer – female was awarded to Sunidhi Chauhan for “Beedi Jalayle” from Omkara and Gulzar won the best lyrics award for the same song.

The best choreography award went to Shiamak Davar for Dhoom 2.

The prestigious Lifetime achievement award was presented to Mala Sinha and Biswajeet. Asha Parekh and Jeetendra did the honours.

The performances were all well executed. Shahid Kapoor and Salman Khan were unbeatable. The person everyone would remember with a smile was the fantastic humor by Raju Srivastav. He had the audience in splits. He deserved an award as the star entertainer of the evening.

Shahrukh Khan, wife Gauri, the kids and Karan Johar spent Christmas at Goa.

They brought in 2007 with a bang at their house ‘Mannat.’ All their industry friends were invited.

Arjun Rampal enjoyed himself immensely, all the more so when Shahrukh told him that he would be in his home production – Om Shanti Om.

Priyanka Chopra was seen with her boyfriend and co-star Harman Baweja.

Kareena put in an appearance, only to be soon followed by Shahid Kapoor.

Amitabh Bachchan with his family, and Amar Singh were at Vindhyavasini Temple in Uttar Pradesh

Aishwarya and Abhishek, in what seems to be a pre-nuptial ceremony, offered prayers to Maa Bhagwati.

They then took a Parikrama (walking around the temple of the Deity) they were offered Kum Kum (Vermillion powder) which, Abhishek applied on Aishwariya’s forehead and his own.

According to the pundits, the Bachchan’s performed 16 puja’s at the temple They offered a gold Chatra (umbrella), a nose ring and anklets to the Goddess.

Abhishek was dressed in a white kurta pajama, while Aishwariya wore a white churidar kurta with a green dupatta.

After the puja’s and prayers, they celebrated Amar Singh’s 51^st birthday. This was a ceremony held in a pandal close to the temple.

51 couples were married on the occasion. Amitabh Bachchan also performed kanyadaan (giving away the bride) for a couple.

Lately the Bachchans and Aishwariya have visited temples in Madurai, Varanasi, Pushkar and Mumbai.

On the lines of yesteryears Purab Aur Paschim, Vipul Shah has spent a whopping 30 crores on this film. Starring Salman Khan and Katrina Kaif the film certainly has potential. Music director Himesh Reshamiya teams with Javed Akthar with a result of 24 songs in the in the movie.

Metro

After the success of Gangster, hopefully Anurag Basu will be achieve the same success with this new action packed drama. Shilpa Shetty looks promising.

Jhoom Barabar Jhoom

Under the Yash Raj banner, Shaad Ali directs this movie. It has an impressive star cast of Abhishek Bachchan, Preity Zinta, Bobby Deol and Lara Dutta. Big B is also there with his inimitable style and persona.

Traffic Signal

Chandni Bar, Corporate and now a movie that deals with the trials and travails of urchins at traffic signals. Madhur Bhandarkar scores with meaningful cinema again.

God Tussi Great Ho

This movie took very long to complete due to Amitabh’s health problems. Rumi Jaffrey, a debutant director, has made a romantic comedy with Salman Khan and Priyanka Chopra. Big B plays God.

Just Married

Meghna Gulzar who had made the thought provoking film on surrogate motherhood – Filhaal, now makes a movie on the psyche of a newly married couple. Esha Deol and Fardeen Khan play the just married couple. Should definitely be good with Gulzar’s touch.

Chak De India

Shimit Amin has made this film following Ab Tak Chappan. The lead role is about a coach who is down in the dumps. He leads the Indian all- women hockey team to victory. The role was first turned down by Salman Khan and then Akshay Kumar also found he did not want to play a loser. Shahrukh Khan stepped into the breach and is supposed to have done a brilliant job.

Saawariya

Sanjay Leela Bhansali- the name of this director is synonomous with opulence and lavish sets, coupled with mind-blowing music. He has taken newcomers – Sonam and Ranbir Kapoor. They find the director a tough taskmaster. Salman Khan and Rani Mukherji add their oomph to the movie.

Om Shanti Om

Farah Khan has made this super entertainer after her Main Hoon Na success. The subject of the movie deals with reincarnation. She is launching model turned actress Deepika Padukone (Badminton champion Prakash Padukone’s daughter) opposite veteran actor Sharukh Khan. The computer graphics are said to be great, as is the music by Vishal- Shekar.

Tara Rum Pum

Directed under the Yash Raj banner by Siddharth Anand- still basking in the glory of Salaam- Namaste. In the lead roles are Rani Mukherji and Saif Ali Khan, who together try to recapture the magic of Hum Tum. The musical score promises to be great.

Kya Love Story Hai

This promises to be a fun filled lighthearted movie starring Tusshar Kapoor and Ayesha Takia. The director of the film is named Lovely and it is shot in the lovely and beautiful locales of South Africa.

Cheeni Kum

This is a romantic comedy directed by Adwallah Balki. The theme of the movie revolves around a younger woman who is attracted to an older man. Amitabh and Tabu share a very good ‘on screen’ chemistry.

Jodha Akbar

The film is based on the Moghul Emperor’s love story till he is 27 years old. Hrithik Roshan and Aishwariya have done a great job. The film directed by Ashutosh Gowarikar was shot in the interior, untouched locales of Rajasthan. A R Rehman gives the musical score.

Love Story 2050

Priyanka Chopra stars opposite debutant Harry Baweja. The film had Kareena Kapoor in the lead earlier. Shot in the beautiful backdrop of Australia, the movie promises good entertainment.

Nishabd

Jiah Khan plays opposite Amitabh Bachchan. The movie will have to be watched to evaluate.

Halla Bol

Raj Kumar Santoshi makes a comeback after his impressive Legend of Bhagat Singh. Ajay Devgan plays the lead with Vidya Balan as his wife. Ajay Devgan’s performance is something to be talked about.

Ramgopal Varma Ke Sholay

Since there have been a lot of changes with regard to the cast, the movie did not have a smooth making and only once it is released will be the real test.

Apne

Dharmendra joins hands with his sons, Sunny and Bobby. Shilpa Shetty is in the lead. The director for this venture is Anil Sharma.

No Smoking

Anurag Kashyap casts John Abraham opposite Ayesha Takia in this movie. This movie explores the darker terrains of real life.

The Legion d’honneur award was bestowed on the First Man of the Bombay film industry – Amitabh Bachchan.

Saturday evening saw the Capital’s glitterati present to witness the event at the French Embassy. The entire Bachchan clan, including Amar Singh was present. Aishwarya, their soon to be daughter in law was present with her parents. This was her first public appearance with the Bachchan family after her engagement to Abhishek Bachchan.

The French Ambassador, Dominique Girard conferred the award on him. The Legion d’honneur award is the highest French distinction. Napoleon Bonaparte created it in 1802. Among the Indians to receive this award were, filmmaker Satyajit Ray and Sitar maestro Ravi Shankar.

Ambassador Girard spoke eloquently about Amitabh’s achievements and summed up his journey from Saat Hindustani to Sholay. He added mention of his charisma in the television program Kaun Banega Crorepati.

He said that Amitabh is a unique symbol in India. He is an ideal husband, is the father of 2 wonderful children and the star of all times.

Amitabh Bachchan looked dignified in a ‘bandh gala’ black suit. He said, “ I am truly humbled, I consider the honour not a personal achievement, but a recognition of the manifold achievement of Indian cinema”. He also said that, “Our cinema has evolved in consonance with the nation’s progress. When National economy has made a leap forward so has cinema.” He said Indian cinema was like a woven tapestry – vivid and multi-hued.

“Penguins – A Love Story” was screened on the occasion. It was the first French film to be officially released. Amitabh Bachchan did the narration of the film. This is an Oscar winning documentary.

This 30-year-old actress has been working non-stop in remote locations. She has also been working on foreign projects. She finds that working for Hollywood movies is good as they are very organized, but even then feels that the Bollywood scene with the songs and dancing are also fun.

She is working in Karma Confessions and Holi, where the Indians are represented rather than made fun of.

She is also acting opposite Richard Gere in a movie called Expat, which is to be filmed in Argentina. Sushmita plays the role of a Pakistani expatriate.

Sushmita would love to work with Aishwarya in a movie, but since there has been so much media hype about their so called rivalry that it would take a really good director with a strong story line to be able to do justice to both their status and talent.

Sushmita has completed a film for Tanuja Chandra – Rockin, where she plays a rock star. She is working opposite Saif and Fardeen for a film by Abbas Mastaan.

She has started her own production house called Tantra Entertainment and plans to make at least 3 movies a year. Her dream project is to make an epic on Rani Laxmibai. The subject is being researched thoroughly.

Sushmita has also started a leisure company called Sensation – where she wants to launch hotels, spas, lounges and restaurants. To begin with she has initiated work on a pub/lounge in Kolkata. It is a 10,000 sq feet space on the 10^th floor of a building, with the view of Victoria Gardens on one side and the Howrah Bridge on the other.

She is a style icon – known and admired for her grace and poise. She proves it when in the film Main Hoon Na, she did not have an important role as such, but she wore vibrant chiffon saris with such grace and aplomb that people definitely noticed her.

She does not want to commit herself on her relationship to Randeep Hooda, but admitted that he was close to her adopted daughter, Renee, and felt that she shared a spiritual relationship with him. Renee is the focus of her life. Marriage, for her is a beautiful institution, which could not be chalked out and planned. When the time was right the right person would come along and things would automatically fall into place.
