He has interwoven the lives of street characters, maintaining the stark reality of the life they lead, at the same time showing the humane side to their characters.

The film moves at a very fast pace in the beginning, as he wants to familiarize the audience with all the characters he will be depicting.
In the movie Bhandarkar, reveals the nexus of the political leaders with the underworld.
The Traffic Signal in the movie is the Keller Marg in Mumbai. You see that the red signal actually starts the business for the hawkers, selling paper, flowers, clothes etc.
You have an orphan boy from Chennai – Chinnaswamy Vedagiri who is called Tsunami, he feels he will find his lost parents. The cheeky Paaya who claims that his father is dead so that he makes some money by begging.

Rani and her sister, who are migrants from Gujarat, eke their living by selling clothes from Kutch.
Silsila – Kunal Khemu is so named as he was born on the day that the Yash Chopra Silsila was released in Mumbai. He is a sensitive youth who collects Hafta (Commission) from all these people and then pays the local underworld mafia.

Noorie- Konkona Sen Sharma, is a prostitute who uses colorful language and loud lipstick. She shares a relationship with the lost looking Dominic- Ranvir Shorey who is a junkie.
Life is tough and becomes tougher when a builder wants to construct a flyover at the signal. The livelihood of the urchins, eunuchs, hawkers are at stake.


Bhandarkar has managed to do justice to such a large cast, by expert editing. The movie is definitely an experience not to be missed.
